The No.1 sound editing software

Virtual DJ 7

Virtual DJ 7
Virtual DJ 7 is one of the most popular live-music-mixing tools today. It utilizes the computer system’s CPU to visualize beat waves in just a few seconds. Virtual DJ’s advanced sound engine enables you to mash-up tracks in real-time. Depending on your skill and the capacity of your CPU, you can use up to 8 decks of music tracks at the same time, each with their own beat wave. Virtual DJ is one of the most popular software used by disk jockeys around the world. Virtual DJ even has a dedicated video rendering engine which enables you to literally mix 2 music videos. Effects and other plug-in are available depending on the user. Virtual DJ has its own unique transition effects for both audio and video mixing projects.
Pros - advantages of Virtual DJ
  • Real Time Track Mixing - Virtual DJ has a unique sound engine that you can customize. You can set it to auto-detect any music you insert to its decks. The sound engine can detect house music or techno music. Each of which has a unique beat pattern that Virtual DJ’s sound engine can render in a short length of time.
  • Video Mixing - Virtual DJ can not only mix music, it can mix videos too! Music Videos can also be used in Virtual DJ, and it has a wide range of compatible video codec which makes it very useful in some presentations. Clubs have projectors that display visual images and Virtual DJ suits this function very well. You can even include personalized text as part of your visual display.
  • Unique Looping – Virtual DJ’s powerful, advanced sound engine enables you to record unique loops. In Virtual DJ, you can loop up to a 16th of a beat or even a 32th of a beat. This looping ability makes it very useful when producing electronic tracks. You can even record your loops as samplers or jingles.
  • Smart Scratching – You can include up to 2 timecodes in Virtual DJ’s setup. You can configure your Asio sound driver depending on your timecodes and your sound card. Generally, smart scratching enables you to scratch with ease while producing high quality sounds. There are some more plug-ins that enable you to enhance your scratching capabilities.
  • Record and Broadcast Capabilities –Virtual DJ can record your project in either WAV or MP3 format. You can select whether to record from the master output or you may include the microphone and line-in signal inputs. Generally, this capability can be accessible only if you have the correct set-up and appropriate hardware (microphones and sound cards). Virtual DJ can also stream your project real time (audio only). Provided that you have proper radio broadcasting equipment. Some states require a special license in order for you to air your broadcasts.
  • Unique effects for audio and video – Virtual DJ has unique and functional transitions and effects. These can be used in mixing audio as well as video. You can control every parameter regarding the effects and transitions (length of effect, gain, length of transition).
  • Samplers and jingles – You can record a looped track as a sampler. This function is very useful when you introduce the next track (to the currently playing track). Some DJs use samplers to fill in the “air” when shifting tracks. Samplers can be utilized for this purpose.
Cons - downsides of Virtual DJ
  • System recovery issues - Virtual DJ has an advanced sound engine. This makes the system very confident. Virtual DJ’s system does not limit the number of tracks to be inserted in its decks (1 track per deck). However, Video Files which are extremely large can slow down the system. Virtual DJ has a crash-guard capability. The only disadvantage of the software is that it has no file size limiter (for better system performance).
  • Inaccurate beat waves – As mentioned above, Virtual DJ can visualize beat waves in a short period of time. Beat waves are used to synchronize the next track to the current track. Because of this (and only in some instances), some beat wave representations are not accurate. Beats are sometimes off-track in ½ of a beat. User correction is needed to manually map the whole track and reposition the beats.
